Meet Stephanie

About Stephanie

Stephanie is a mom, an attorney, and a competitive chess player. She’s running to continue to represent our community in the state senate because she believes our district deserves someone with strong progressive who knows how to deliver results.

As an attorney, she’s spent her career fighting for justice within the legal system. But even before she was in the courtroom, she was doing that work on the ground. At Comunidades Unidas, she advocated for the rights and dignity of our immigrant communities. At the ACLU of Utah, she worked to defend Utahns’ free speech rights. And she’s spent hundreds of hours volunteering in our public schools, teaching chess to children and developing curriculum for educators.

That’s the experience Stephanie brings with her as she represents our community on Capitol Hill.

In the legislature, Stephanie has built a strong record of results.

  • She passed legislation that improves air quality by cracking down on unlawful vehicle polluters
  • She passed legislation that improves water conservation by requiring the state to use low water-use turf on all future landscaping projects
  • She passed legislation that supports working families by creating innovative childcare solutions like the Infant at Work Program, and
  • She passed legislation that dismantles our state’s cash bail system by eliminating practices that dole out justice based on who can pay. She passed this bill even over the objection of the Speaker of the House, the Senate President, and a powerful bail lobby.

Stephanie has fought against school vouchers, gerrymandered political boundaries, and Republican attempts to sway the ideology of the Supreme Court with far-right appointees.

She has taken her chess strategy with her to the hill and has established a strong record of results. She has the unique skillset of being effective and passing progressive policy, even in our super majority Republican legislature. Stephanie is committed to continuing this fight and continuing to deliver results for our community.
