As you may be aware, during the recent session, the legislative majority passed HB 267, a bill that bans public employees from collectively bargaining. This means that essential workers like educators, firefighters, and police officers will no longer have the opportunity to bargain for fair pay, safer working conditions, and proper training.
As a member of the Senate, I strongly opposed this bill and voted against it, because I believe that our job as elected officials is to protect and support the workers who keep our communities running, not undermine them.
Right now, a coalition called Protect Utah Workers is mounting an effort to put HB 267 on the ballot and let Utahns decide. But, to do it, they need to collect 200,000 signatures by the middle of April, which means we all need to step up and do our part.
That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for a community signing event:
🗓️WHEN: Wednesday, April 2nd from 5 -7 pm
📍WHERE: Tanner Park, 2660 Heritage Way, SLC
I hope to see you there, and please spread the word to your family, friends, and neighbors! Let’s come together and help protect public employees.
Best,
Sen. Stephanie Pitcher
